FRC TEAM 4682 - THE CYBEARS
The robotics team at Bishop Blanchet is a way for students to get hands-on experience 设计, 建筑, 编码, and collaborating in the STEM (Science, 技术, 工程, and Math) fields with working professionals. The main focus of the team is to participate in the FIRST 机器人 Competition (FRC), which pits robots from different schools against each other on a basketball-sized court! The game rules and challenges change every year, and participation at these events regularly packs the biggest indoor HS venues in the state!
Members of the team will have opportunities to learn everything they would need to know at a small engineering/tech startup. Students do not need to come with any knowledge, just a passion in a subject. We offer lessons on 3d CAD modeling, electrical wiring, computer 编码, metal forming and fabrication, 设计, 原型设计, the list goes on. We are also interested in those with a strong artistic/graphic design background to integrate the CyBear theme into the design of the robot, which has won the Imagery Award at every competition we have competed in.
Most of the above skills will be taught by a combination of students, supported by mentors who work in those fields during the fall pre-season. Jan-Mar marks the official FRC season, where the team will be presented a novel challenge and given 6 weeks to design and build the robot to compete against other high schools in 华盛顿 and hopefully qualify for the PNW Regionals!
If you're interested in participating, reach out to Coach Kyle McCausland. No experience needed!
When and Where the Team meets:
During the fall the team meets every Tues and Wed from 230-5 from Sept-Dec, with pre-season competitions setting the time schedule. The main season is Jan-Mar with the team meeting Tues, Wed, & Thurs from 230-8 and 2 Sats per month from 10-4. Students are not required to attend all meetings or stay the entire time, but those who contribute significant efforts have the opportunity to letter!
